Birth to Age 5 Program at Arlington Elementary
Arlington Public Schools offers services for children ages Birth to Five who are in need of additional support because of developmental delays, speech and language needs, health impairments or other educational needs. Students are supported by a team of professionals with a variety of backgrounds in early childhood education. The professionals who work with students are: early childhood special education teacher, speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, hearing, and vision. These professionals would work in collaboration with parents to target fine and gross motor skills, communication and language, social skills, self-help skills, and the development of cognitive and early learning concepts. Our team connects with other professionals in the Early Development Network and works in conjunction with them to improve every child we work with. These services are provided at no cost to parents, but parents must live within the school district boundaries in order to have assistance.
Arlington Elementary also has an Early Childhood Special Education Program which provides services for students ages three through five. This program provides services to support students as they transition into full time elementary school. This program also utilizes typically developing peers in order to help students gain skills in all areas of development. The preschool provides one screening during the year to determine student needs and eligibility for additional support through the program, or parents can request a screening at any time during the year if they have concerns about their child’s development.
